Black Swan

Yikes check out the gorgeous Natalie Portman’s incred beauty look for the NYC Premiere of Black Swan. Everyone who plans to check out the film (expected to land in blighty during Jan 2011), be warned to expect a whole different type of face painting on screen. Of the visuals she dreamed up, Oscar winning make-up designerJudy Chin says we should expect 'Intense, alluring, and sexy with a bit of danger mixed in…What I've always loved about makeup design is its contribution to the actor's performance'. When developing the makeup styles for each character, Chin not only took into account their age, personal history, affluence and profession, but also the plot of the story and how events might affect the character's appearance. 'I always try to find out how the actors will be dressed, as that can significantly influence the look. While our designs are often created independently at first, I find that the hair stylist and I work very closely to be sure that our looks fit together and bring the characters to life.

Rumour has it that Black Swan has given ballet a massive cool-over and than even rugby playing boys will enjoy it! Woudathoughtit? Now, while there maybe little opportunity to recreate this look, just in case you do happen to have a dressing up themed party coming up, check out how the beauty look came about below….

Ivory MAC foundation and a white cream highlight were applied on the forehead and cheekbones.

To create the swan eyes, Chin used black MAC Chromaline liner. MAC Pigment in Silver was then combined with Mixing Medium and applied with feathery brushstrokes.

The under eye was lined using MAC Chromaline in red.

Lips were lined with MAC Lip Pencil in Vino and topped with MAC lipstick in Dubonnet.

Alternatively, feel like toning the look down for a dramatic but more everyday look?

'There are a lot of aspects to this makeup that are standard elements for a classic beauty makeup,' said Chin. 'The highlights and contours along the cheekbones, nose, jawline, and the pout of the mouth can all be adapted to a contemporary makeup. I also think one could incorporate the dramatic eyeliner – the angles and the intensity - into a very seductive, catlike smoky eye.'
